The recent Irish Venture Capital VenturePulse survey makes interesting reading showing that 1,250 Irish SMEs have raised venture capital of €2.8bn. since 2008 and that there continues to be a strong appetite by international investors for Irish tech firms.
It appears therefore that the "tech funding time bomb" is now being addressed.
What Irish tech now needs is the confidence to internationalize and grow past C Funding rounds- to build truly international Irish tech businesses.
The IVCA VenturePulse survey shows that Irish companies raised €237.4m from investors in Q1 2016. This compares with funds raised of €119.8m in Q1 2015, €145.4m in Q1 2014 and with €52.1m in Q1 2013. Seed/Early Stage In Q1 2016 early stage companies raised seed capital of €24.7m (10% of funds raised). This compares with €11.9m (10% of funds raised) in Q1 2015, €4.6m (3% of funds raised) in Q1 2014 and with €7.3m (14% of funds raised) in Q1 2013.
