Ireland has long been home to a thriving Medtech community. 13 out of 15 of the world's largest Medtech companies have operations based in Ireland, according to figures published by the IDA.
Recent figures also show that there is a significant AI industry developing in Ireland. There is a natural opportunity for the country to marry its expertise in both sectors to become a world leading hub for Medtech AI solutions.
Fears have been expressed recently that the development of AI technologies will lead to significant job losses. AI in Medtech should instead be seen as a huge opportunity. An increasing, and increasingly aging, global population means that there is a significant future challenge in developing sufficient numbers of qualified medical professionals required to address future needs. The development of AI diagnostic solutions and other AI products in the Medtech space is one way in which this issue can be addressed.
Newly published figures from TechIreland, the public database aimed at providing a detailed portrait of Ireland’s start-up scene, shows the Republic is home to a vibrant open AI ecosystem.
